The terroir
A Haut-Médoc vineyard in a setting of biodiversity
Château Sénéjac au Pian-Médoc covers 150 hectares, of which 41 hectares are planted with vines. The average age of the vineyard is 35 years, and the average planting density is 6,600 vines per hectare.
Château Sénéjac's soil is located halfway between Margaux and Bordeaux, on the clay-gravel hillside in the commune of Pian-Médoc. This gravel was eroded from the Pyrenees during the Quaternary era. The soil is naturally low in organic matter, which favors the expression of great Cabernet Sauvignon.
Château Sénéjac's oceanic climate allows the vines to flourish on this magnificent terroir. It brings mildness and rain in winter, sunshine and heat in summer.
The vat-house
From vine to glass:
the secrets of winemaking
Château Sénéjac uses a traditional vinification method, with temperature-controlled stainless steel vats for alcoholic fermentation.
With very little intervention during fermentation, we respect our grapes with gentle, controlled extraction during 20 to 30 days of cuvaison, depending on the vintage, to obtain a dense color, delicate tannins and complex aromas.
Malolactic fermentation takes place in the days that follow to enhance the suppleness of our wines and make them even more lovable.
The cellar
The art of sublimating our wines
At the very beginning of winter, we carry out the assemblage tasting. The best wines of the year are selected to create the new vintage.
This blend is then matured in carefully selected French oak barrels. After 12 to 14 months of ageing in wood (of which 30% in new barrels), the wine is bottled.
After a resting period, the bottles are shipped to the four corners of the world. Now all you have to do is taste and enjoy!
Giving back to the earth what it gives us
Integrating the environment as one of Château Sénéjac's performance parameters means meeting society's expectations today and in the years to come.
Quality, authenticity and sustainability guide all our actions, from creating exceptional wines to preserving our environment and heritage. Discover how our commitments shape every stage of our production by exploring our approach in detail.
