Passing on to future generations

Integrating the environment as one of Château Sénéjac's performance parameters  means meeting today's and future societal expectations.

We are, like our customers, increasingly aware of the fragility of our environment. It is therefore essential to transmit a preserved and clean land to our children.

Through this motivation, we are committed to a collective approach with the establishment of an environmental management system (EMS) based on the ISO 14001 international standard. The EMS of Bordeaux wines provides us with the tools, environmental practices and know-how necessary to meet the challenges of tomorrow. We were thus rewarded by receiving the High Environmental Value level 3 certification in July 2018 and the ISO 14001 certification as part of the first association for environmental management in Bordeaux in July 2019.

Accompanying nature

The whole innovative spirit of the SME approach lies in the management of teams in the vineyard as well as in the winery.

Every practice, every job, every daily gesture is master to reduce our impact on the environment. These practices impact of a multitude of works.

In particular, working the soil instead of using pesticides allows better rooting. The ploughing forces the roots of each vine to dive deeper, thus improving its access to nutrients.

The microbial life of the soil will increase as a result of successive scratching and ridging, thus favouring the mineralisation of organic matter and the oxygenation of the soil.

Around the vines

In addition to its exceptional terroir, Château Sénéjac has a wide range of agricultural land.

Of the 150 hectares that make up the estate, about forty hectares of forest border the vineyard to the north and south of the property. There is a wide variety of species with hornbeams, oaks, acacias and maritime pines.

Between the vines and this forest the landscape alternates with meadows where horses and donkeys can be seen living in complete freedom. In the park, around the castle, very old fish ponds are the testimony of ancient fish farming practices. They are home to many aquatic species and a sign of great diversity.

All of these lands constitute a rich reserve of biodiversity that we wish to maintain, improve and above all preserve.
